This shows where we walk and meet the ravens
The yellow and pink squiggly lines are two walks we take. The yellow one is the one we usually do. The squigglyness indicates how Madame visits her several important sniffing check-points!
We stop several times to feed the ravens, and you can see where they come from.

If you right-click on the image and open it in a new tab, you can then zoom in to see more details.

Clear skies and a nice sunrise when we went out at 7.20 a.m. today.
The clear skies meant it was below freezing, and there was hoar frost on the grass.
Madame Dog would have loved it ...

We didn't go into the tennis courts because the frozen ground there is slippery - and it was too cold for me to just stand around and call Miss Sophie.
So we walked around Llandaff Fields, having met Bas and Karen.

Sadly, Miss Sophie tried to show that lovely labradoodle Leo (he's cream coloured, and a sweetie) that she's the higher ranking dog.
What happend was that Leo pushed in when Miss Sophie was sniffing a small black-and-tan spaniel who was quite submissive.
Well, Miss Sophie has shown a few times that she's not having any pushing-ins by any dog she considers below her ranking - and Leo, on top of that, is an entire male.

So she put her front paw on his withers (as alpha dogs do), growled and tried to bite his neck. Nothing happened - she's still wearing her gentle leader which doesn't allow her to open her jaws very much - and Leo has of course lots of thick, curly fur.
Still - very embarrassing.

No ravens, alas - too many dogs around in the big field.
Better luck tomorrow.

Hi there {Yma} this is realwest! We are busy with our Thanksgiving today but I just had to read Town Ravens today!
It's a shame that Miss Sophie doesn't seem to "get it" where other dogs are concerned. Wonder what her obedience class trainer thinks of this, now?
In any event, it is such a pleasure to read your blog, thank you!!!

Dear {rw},

thanks - and I hope you had an outstanding Thanksgiving!

I've abandoned obedience classes for the time being - I'm too tired in the evenings, and my night vision has become rather bad, so walking there and back in total darkness is not something I want to try.

I think in the end Miss Sophie and the other dogs need to sort themselves out by themselves - that's what the trainer said a few weeks ago.
Today, we met a Chow-Chow puppy - a girlie - and she and Miss Sophie did get on and played a bit. But then, that dog and Miss Sophie were both on their leads. It is important that the dog owners are close by and can keep their dogs under control.
Time will tell - I think with patience she'll become a 'right little cracker', as my vet said when he saw her for the first time!
