This shows where we walk and meet the ravens
The yellow and pink squiggly lines are two walks we take. The yellow one is the one we usually do. The squigglyness indicates how Madame visits her several important sniffing check-points!
We stop several times to feed the ravens, and you can see where they come from.

If you right-click on the image and open it in a new tab, you can then zoom in to see more details.

May 31st

It was a lovely morning, with bright sunshine and a blue sky, with a few white clouds, when we went out at 6.50 a.m.

As it is a Bank Holiday today, most dog walkers were still resting, or had gone away for the long weekend. So Llandaff Fields was 'empty'. We did not hear any raven calls until we came to the ravens field.
Here, the Roman-nosed raaven met us as we walked towards the far end, the fence next to the allotments.

He got his scraps, ate them, and then flew off. He did come back as we were walking along the wall, and got some more.
Having put in quite a bit of training with Miss Sophie, we walked back to the spinney along the 'more food' way.

Just as we reached the footpath we need to cross to get into the big field, the bold raven turned up.
He got his food - and he ate just one piece of scrap, storing the rest in his crop. When he flew off we walked back home.

Walking back, we noticed a raven at the bottom of the First field. He had his beak into the ground - I could not make out if he was retrieving food or hiding some.

Later that afternoon it had clouded over a bit, and as we went to Pontcanna Fields we noticed that the wind had picked up, coming from the E. It felt much colder than the sunshine had promised.

We only saw a few single ravens in the distance. They were right at the opposite end of Pontcanna Fields, miles away from the ravens nest. They did not approach us but flew off as soon as they saw us. They must be part of a different group.

There were quite a number of people about, playing cricket and kicking balls around.
We did a bit of training and then went home.

Hi {Yma} - this is realwest - seems as if Miss Sophie is doing better, no? Or were there just no sparrows about?
And why did you have a bank holiday today?

Hiya, realwest -

yes, Miss Sophie is doing better every day. She is by no means perfect, but is getting there, slowly!
No, there weren't any swallows around at that time, so I'm not counting my chickens as of yet ...

Its a bank holiday because the last Monday in May is generally close-ish to Whitsun, where there used to be a Holiday Monday, just as after Easter and Christmas. But we can't have moveable feast days in a secular society! Every year we have new proposals about having a fixed date for Easter ...
